This article is the one I am most proad of. I started the article in February from scratch because I was surprised the prestigious University of Delaware football team did not have a wikipedia listing. So I started the topic with a little bit of text and it was immediatly marked by Wikipedia adminstrators for speedy deletion. So I asked the administrators for one week to get the article up to par. They gave me a week and over this time I posted in a forum on www.gohens.net (a website for the most diehard Delaware football fans) a link to the article and asked them to contribute. Within days the article had grown 5 times as big as my intial posts and the admin sent me a message saying that all I had to do to keep the article online was add a picture and categorize the article. I did that and the speedy deletion tag was removed and now the article will be online forever. It is now up to number 3 when you type University of Delaware football into the google search engine.

The Hfstival is a very large rock concert held in Washington DC or Baltimore at the end of May.This wikipedia article was one of the most challangeing to edit. Two of my edits were deleated within hours of my posting. One of my edits was to make note that the lineup someone posted for the 2006 festival was completely speculative. About 3 hours after that my note saying the lineup was speculative was deleated, although the speculative lineup posted was also deleated. It was than pretty easy to edit after that because lots of information about the 2006 show May 27 and 28 became availiable and needed to be added to the site. Alot of times people beat me to the punch with adding the information but i was able to cleanup alot of the info and add meaningful improvements to the article.

On the KDR wikipedia page I planned on adding alot of things that were related to the history of the fraternity but some other users beat me to the punch and added alot of information. I just cleaned up some of there errors and added lots of external links that they forgot. None of my edits got deleted. Overall the article came along way since I started the class but honestly I had very little to do with it, the community beat me to the punch.

The Six Flags America Wikipedia page I have been editing has come along way. I added up to date information about ticket prices and new attractions. I used the site Screamscape as my main research site. Screamscape has lots of information about the themepark industry and I have been checking it for years. I used to work at the park, thats why I chose the topic. The community did not change anything I added to the article and there were 4 people who edited the article inbetween the times I edited. They mostly added external links.

Hans post on Podcasts

I read my team mate Han's post on Podcasts today and I tend to agree that podcasts are becoming more and more prevelant. I too have been seeing lots of new podcasts popping up all over the place. University of Delaware recently wrote an article about the success of there podcasts in udaily.

I edited the Six Flags America Wikipedia article again. I did some research and found out that the Ultra Twister coaster that was formerly at Six Flags Astroworld in Houston Texas is a the park now in storage and will more than likely be installed in time for the 2007 season. Also I posted that the park has a new GM named Terry Parker.

Naked Conversations Blog

I read an interesting post on the Naked conversations blog today about the new Southwest Airlines Blog. Shel Criticizes the blog for not providing content that is interesting. Shel claims that the blog just reiterates information everyone already knows and does not generate enough interest to get quality dialog started. Shel recommends adding posts from flight attendants and pilots to increase interest in the blog.

Walmart and Labor unions

I remembered reading an article a while back in my local Bowie Maryland newspaper.The Walmart near my house had a huge protest that was set up by the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union. Walmart does not have there own union as I stated in class, I remembered wrongly. Sorry for the confusion. A link to the article is listed below. Deal Catcher

I checked out the Deal Catcher site for the first time today. It works pretty good I found a few good deals that I didn't think were possible. I used a few of these comparision web sites years ago and they have come along way. I remember using mysimon in its earlier version and all the deals I found linked to broken sites and were outdates. I am impressed my how they now update the site almost everyday and majority of the links are reliable. I will be using Deal Catcher and Froogle regulary now.

Naked conversation blog

I was reading the Naked Conversations blog today and i found an interesting posting about Blog Recruiting. The article lists several reasons was as to how blogs are better for recruiting than simple help wanted ads. They are more personal, can generate more word of mouth, and show Demysticification. Maybe we will be browsing blogs for jobs when i graduate rather than help wanted ads?

Microsoft Geek Blogger

I checked out the Microsoft geek blogger today and was fascinated by a post that describes how Microsoft is not just one company but rather about 100 differant companies sharing one name and one roof. Scobal humorously explains how each fraction within Microsoft uses differant RSS Icons that confuse many users. I beleive that this is not good for Microsoft because it shows the whole company is not on the same page trying to accomplish the same goals. An unorganized company no matter how large it is will not meet its ultimate operating potential.

Podcasts

I just happened to have my homepage on my browser set to Yahoo and when I opened it today there was a story on the front page about podcasts. Yahoo now offers a service that allows people to access all kinds of podcasts from one central location. The article talks about how podcasts are gaining popularity and will challange radio in the future. Now lets see how marketers use the podcasts.

Jimmy Asip's posting on buzz marketing

Jimmy's post pretty much summarized the concepts that Mark Hughes described in class. I beleive that renaming the town to Half.com Oregon was a great idea. Although I have been thinking as to other ways you can generate buzz. Mark's way was very controversal and creative although I think they're are other ways to create buzz that don't require that much creativity. I think just by having consistancy in your product or service will get people to talk about it in a positive way. For example if your a night club owner and you have a good promotion or special that everyone loves and you have that same special every week on the same day people will start to talk about how your club is the place to be on whatever that night is. For example when the Stone Balloon was in operation on main street here in Newark they never had to advertise because everyone knew that on Thursday nights they alway had an awesome drink special and great live bands. The Balloon was packed every Thursday night for the last decade without the need to advertise because of the great buzz they're mug night generated because of the consistant good times it was able to creat every Thursday night. Consistancy is the best way to Buzz market.

Blogs getting students at Universities suspended

I was reading the Diva Marketing blog today and it was mentioned in the sidebar that students at Universities are actually getting sanctioned by the school and sometimes even arrested for comments they make in there blogs.Diva Marketing links to this USA today article. Sites like myspace,exanga, and facebook allow students to write whatever they want online. Although these sites are not private and anyone with a University email address can access the content. I have actually edited my facebook page to eliminate incriminating evidence of certain activities. .UD Review addressed this issue at UD a few days ago.

I just read the latest post by Shel Israel about one of her competitors in Blog book writing. Jeremy Wright the author of a book called Blog Marketing which came out just before Naked Conversations was released. Shel wrote that she was pleased to meet Jeremy.She explained how they surprisingly hit it off and had many things in common.

Internet Pornography presents alot of major Law a Privacy Issues. Alot of times when people log onto porn sites their computers immediatly download malicious code. This malicious code downloads lots of Spyware and worms that can easily and without your knowledge steal your personal information. Network World has an article online that goes into detail about porn sites and spyware.

Phishing

Our recent class discussion has opened my eyes when it comes to phishing. I recently cleaned out my email in-box and have discoverd over 30 emails I have gotten over the last 6 months claiming to be from Paypal. They all say my account is damaged or something to that matter and seem urgent. I recently discoverd that I can forward the suspicious emails to spoof@paypal.com and they will track that the ip the emails came from and attempt to prosecute the spammers. This is explained on paypals security website .

Alright I just set this up and am really tired. Today I woke up shoveled snow, went to California Tortilla with Juston, than the Mall to get Lauren and Valentines gift, had a rush meeting, went to the copy store and had papers laminated, nailed the papers to the signs, went to Kmart, than went to Chapter, ate dinner with the national representative, watched a movie, and am now doing this work. At least my first class is cancelled for tommorrow.
